A recent rating of the best music schools in the country was released by Hollywood Reporter, and were ranked based on the results of a survey conducted amongst academic and entertainment insiders.
Among the others whose votes were considered included engineers, arrangers, editors, music supervisors, composers from The Society of Composers & Lyricists.
With that said, here is a list of top 5 music schools whose students regularly make it in the music business:
#5: Eastman School of Music
Being in the news for its Institute of Music Leadership, this school is considered to be a ‘core of absolute musical excellence’ and enjoyed the distinction of playing at Obama inauguration recently.
#4: UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music
It’s a school where students get a ‘global understanding’ of music and which has three departments: music, ethnomusicology and musicology. There are a number of programs offered in pop, mariachi, jazz and African drumming and so on and so forth.
#3: The Juilliard School
Only 7.3 percent of applicants make it to this school every year. The reason for this because it is considered as the go to school for classical music. Most students who do get accepted obtain scholarships while those who get loans find a job to pay it off later.
#2: USC Thornton School of Music
A number of students have used the school as a springboard to the music industry. Industry icons consider this school to have the finest film/ TV music program in the country.
#1: Berklee School of Music
Even if the composers from the school seem to be alike, they’ve won almost 270 Grammys in all. Any surprises why the school is on top of this list.
