Chris Brown says he does not remember beating up his girlfriend Rihanna. In a recent interview with Larry King, he stated that his feelings had not changed for Rihanna, and said he still loves her. Accompanied by his mother on the CNN talk show, Brown said he deeply regretted his actions and was still in shock over it.
At the interview, Brown also said he does not recall hitting Rihanna, while he told People magazine that this statement “is not representative of what I said.” He confessed to misspeaking at the interview and says he was asked about the incident with Rihanna four or five times during the hour long interview.
In June, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault and in August, was sentenced to five years of probation, a year of domestic violence counselling and six months of community labour. Brown will serve his sentence in his home state of Virginia. A judicial order, for Brown aged 20 and Rihanna aged 21 to stay away from each other was also issued.
The incident took place in a car after the couple attended a pre-Grammy Awards party. A police affidavit and probation report detail the beating, which includes Brown hitting, biting and choking Rihanna.
Brown, in his interview with People Magazine says he called his mother the night of the incident. “I was distraught. “I went to my mom on the same night and told (her) what happened and broke down.” Brown’s mother is a domestic violence victim.
In a video statement after the incident, Brown apologized to fans and said he had repeatedly apologized to Rihanna.
